Midseason Matchups 2011, Tuesday

8/7c

Winter: No Ordinary Family (ABC) vs. NCIS (CBS) vs. The Biggest Loser (NBC) vs. Glee (Fox) vs. One Tree Hill (The CW)

Spring: (projected) No Ordinary Family (ABC) vs. NCIS (CBS) vs. The Biggest Loser (NBC) vs. Glee (Fox) vs. One Tree Hill (The CW)

Notes: This hour will look a lot like it did in the fall, but an important note for both this and the 9:00 hour is that we don't know for sure where ABC will put the DWTS results show. If anything, the move of American Idol to Wednesday/Thursday might give the net even more incentive to lead off the night with the results show. Then again, giving the best possible lead-in to Body of Proof might take top priority. For now, I'm lining it up the way they had it in the fall, but it's in pencil.

9/8c

Winter: V (ABC, 1/4) vs. NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS) vs. The Biggest Loser (NBC) vs. Million Dollar Money Drop (Fox, 1/4) and Raising Hope/TRAFFIC LIGHT (Fox, 2/8) vs. Hellcats (The CW, 1/25)

Spring: (projected) Dancing with the Stars: The Results (ABC, 3/22) vs. NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS) vs. The Biggest Loser (NBC) vs. Raising Hope/Traffic Light (Fox) vs. Hellcats (The CW)

Cable: Dirty Jobs (Discovery)

Notes: I wasn't necessarily as down on the V renewal as some, but I can't say I'm optimistic about its return. In its favor is the fact that only the Biggest Loser premiere will really sit in the way as competition on January 4. That Traffic Light needs to do much better than previous occupant Running Wilde should go without saying; the real bar it must clear is the performance of the Raising Hope encores that Fox aired at 9:30 in November. (They pulled a 1.7 and 1.9 with the original 9:00 Hope getting a 2.7 and 2.5.)

10/9c

Winter: Detroit 1-8-7 (ABC) vs. The Good Wife (CBS) vs. Parenthood (NBC)

Spring: BODY OF PROOF (ABC, 3/29) vs. The Good Wife (CBS) vs. Law & Order: Los Angeles (NBC, 2/8)

Cable: The Game/LET'S STAY TOGETHER (BET, 1/11), LIGHTS OUT (FX, 1/11), Teen Mom (MTV, 1/11), Southland (TNT, 1/4), White Collar (USA, 1/18)

Notes: Cable scripted-palooza, including two former broadcast shows in The Game and Southland. The Game could transfer its audience to cable much better than previous shows to make the leap, in part because it's constantly syndicated on BET already and in larger part because its "broadcast audience" was usually south of 1.0 during its CW Friday run. White Collar isn't one of USA's tippy-top performers but it should still edge the other cable scripted competition.

Bold indicates timeslot changes; ALL CAPS indicate this midseason's series premieres

If they didn't leave DWTS at 8p this Fall when it would have made sense (NOF away from GLEE, better flow to the night) I doubt they will now. In hindsight I think last Spring was an anomaly because of LOST. It's their highest rated show of the night, plus with BOP at 10p it's all but confirmed DWTS is at 9. I think when NOF wraps up (in April?) They will air a DWTS recap leading into the results and I bet it betters both hours.
