Top 5 year-to-year show losers
1. CSI: NY (F9pm vs. W10pm) -46%
t-2. One Tree Hill (R) (T8pm vs. M8pm) -40%
t-2. Gossip Girl (R) -40%
t-2. 90210 (R) (M8pm vs. T8pm) -40%
5. CSI: Miami (Su10pm vs. M10pm) -38%
The CW's repeats kind of clog up the list this week, but it begs the question; if all the repeats on this network full of viewers who don't watch repeats declined from 0.5 to 0.3 this year, does that mean they'll be at an 0.2 next year? 0.1 two years from now? The other two are CSI's, and I talked about the bad tidings in the CSI universe last week. Among those narrowly missing the list are Lie to Me (-37%), The Biggest Loser's Where Are They Now? special (-37%), and the Survivor special (-35%).
Top 5 year-to-year show gainers
1. Glee (T8pm vs. W9pm) +60%
2. Modern Family +48%
3. The Middle +29%
4. Cougar Town +26%
5. Dancing with the Stars (Tues.) +23%
Glee tops the list despite hitting easily a season low, mostly because the year-ago Glee was on low-HUT Thanksgiving Eve. Thanksgiving Eve also mattered for shows 2-4. If you need any more evidence that ABC has really made some inroads with its comedy block, see how many more people showed up to watch these programs on that increasingly dreary night for TV ratings. The Dancing finale rounds out the list as the fourth ABC program, capping off a very highly rated cycle for the show, and the Monday edition (also +23%) just barely missed the list.
Top 5 year-to-year timeslot losers
1. Nikita (R) vs. Supernatural (The CW, Thursday 9-10pm) -67%
2. The Vampire Diaries (R) vs. The Vampire Diaries (orig) (The CW, Thursday 8-9pm) -63%
3. The Defenders (R) vs. CSI: NY (CBS, Wednesday 10-11pm) -54%
4. School Pride vs. Law & Order (NBC, Friday 8-9pm) -50%
5. No Ordinary Family vs. V (ABC, Tuesday 8-9pm) -42%
More CW repeats on this list, with the CDub's Thursday in originals last year but not this year. If you thought The Defenders' drops from CSI: NY were bad, wait until you put a rerun up against a NY original. School Pride and No Ordinary Family were fixtures on the timeslot loser lists this sweep, appearing in the top 5 for the fourth and third times respectively.
Top 5 year-to-year timeslot gainers
1. Supernatural vs. America's Next Top Model (R) (The CW, Friday 9-10pm) +125%
2. Primetime: Celebrity Plastic Surgery vs. Eastwick (ABC, Wednesday 10-11pm) +64%
3. Undercover Boss vs. Cold Case (CBS, Sunday 9-10pm) +62%
4. Modern Family (ABC, Wednesday 9-9:30pm) +48%
5. Glee/Raising Hope/Raising Hope (R) vs. So You Think You Can Dance (Fox, Tuesday 8-10pm) +48%
Supernatural building on the Top Model repeat and Undercover Boss building (though it used to be relative to Three Rivers) have been mainstays on the list, each making their fourth appearance in four sweeps weeks. While ABC had a great night of comedy on Thanksgiving Eve as mentioned previously, their biggest timeslot gain on the evening actually came at 10:00 with the Primetime special, which shot ahead of terribly-rated Eastwick from 2009. The Middle built 47% from a Modern Family repeat and just barely missed the top 5 for the second straight week.
