22 Hours of Primetime, Saturday 8/7c
Today, my fall preview looks at Saturday 8/7c. Saturdays are pretty much dead from an original scripted standpoint, but each hour of the night sees two networks programming first-run.
ABC
ABC will offer Saturday Night College Football on Saturdays in the fourth quarter as it has for quite awhile now.
FOX
COPS has been on the air for over two decades and is going nowhere anytime soon. Most weeks it airs an original at 8pm and a repeat at 8:30, but typically the repeat actually outrates the original (8:30 built on 8:00 by an average of about 0.2 in the demo). Because of this fact, COPS is one of the few shows for which I include repeats in my averages. It averaged a 1.72 demo across the 8pm hour during the 2009-10 regular season.
CBS and NBC offer repeats in this hour. Both have used the 8:00 hour to burn off axed originals (most recently Persons Unknown on NBC and Three Rivers/The Bridge on CBS), but often that doesn't occur until the summer.
PREDICTIONS
Saturday Night College Football - 2.16 average (-1% from last year) - This is an entire game average, since I usually won't see hourly breakdowns.
COPS - 1.58 average (-8%)
WHAT I'M WATCHING
College football if there's a game I'm interested in. You?
